Dede Ryan, writer, marketer and
creative director of Dashboard Communications, held senior communications positions with Weyerhaeuser, Trus Joist and Morrison
Knudsen. Most recently, she was Executive Director of The Cabin Literary
Center in Boise, Idaho.
In 1974, armed with a degree in Journalism and a love of writing, Dede began professional life as a reporter on Capitol Hill. She held reporting and editorial positions at U.S. News & World Report and Business Publishers, Inc., for more than a decade. She was editor of two newsletters, American Marketplace and Public Transit Report; wrote a series of related monographs; and contributed feature stories to Mass Transit Magazine. In 1990, Dede moved to Boise, Idaho, and launched the trade newsletter: Extrapolate. At the same time, she continued her fiction and essay writing, and was a regular contributor to Boise Magazine. She also wrote weekly restaurant reviews for the Boise Weekly. Currently, Dede writes feature articles for the quarterly publication, The Boise Journal, Boise Home, McCall Magazine, and McCall Home.
“Martini with a Twist,” a philosophical essay, was published in a collection of short stories edited by Paul Auster in association with National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. The 383-page volume (ISBN 0-8050-6714-0) was published October 2001 by Henry Holt and Company, New York.
Dede’s first book of fiction, “Takeover,” (OSBN 0-595-41459-1) was published by iUniverse in September 2007, and is available at amazon.com.
In 2013, her essay “Coffee To Go” was published in the Boise City 150 anthology, and her short story “Circus Man” was published in Brief Grislys by Apocryphile Press in Berkeley, California.
